Secondary Education

Our Curriculum

Secondary education (HS) is the final stage at EHSA where students realize their full potential as mature youth entering adulthood, with the mindfulness, courage, and spontaneity to forge an individualized, scholarly path that they will follow into college and beyond. It is the time where students begin to embrace the advanced elements of learning, including research, scientific studies, one-on-one personalized conversations with faculty, artistic composition and interpretation, philosophical inquiry, and an advanced, data-based understanding of our world and its problems. Students will reflect deeply upon themselves, realizing their unique ability to be a valuable member of their larger community, and the ways in which they can empathize with and help others, through whichever academic subject interests them. They will feel a true responsibility for the projects that they design and lead, including classroom and extracurricular activities, motivating their peers to engage in their personal creative vision alongside them, while reciprocating the same enthusiastic effort. They will internalize the interdisciplinary nature of EHSA’s program, producing advanced connections between and across disciplines that keep the flame of their intellectual spirit alive.

EHSA’s secondary education programs all have multiple pathways for completion. Language Arts begins with world literature and ends with a student’s preferred area, while stressing critical analysis of texts at the collegiate level, often discussion based. Mathematics accelerates to advanced geometry and calculus quickly, and offers directions of both statistics and linear algebra in later years. Social Studies focuses on a deep survey of the development of global civilization, with a specialized approach to either politics or economics in later years. Science covers biology, physics, and chemistry at an AP/IB level in the first three years, with options for environmental science in the final year.
