Elementary Education
Our Curriculum
At EHSA, Elementary level students form and develop their foundations of mindfulness, spontaneity, and courage, the defining elements of our institution. While doing so, students will foster ideas of integrity, selflessness, and community, understanding that they are each a part of a greater whole among their classmates. They will cultivate independence and responsibility, with various opportunities for leadership both within and beyond the classroom. Development of a rich and proud, yet simultaneously gentle and humble character—unique to each student’s irreplicable self—is of utmost importance; this is facilitated through a curriculum that bends to each student’s particular interests and needs. Furthermore, EHSA’s curriculum stresses an interdisciplinary approach, including the arts, from day one of a student’s education, in order to provide the most effective, engaging, and enjoyable learning experience for our students. Through this overall vision for Elementary education, as soon as they enter EHSA’s doors for the first time, students are building themselves into the mature young person they will be upon leaving sixth grade.
In Elementary, Language Arts stresses a deep, reflective understanding of texts beyond what is normal for younger students, and critical ability to understand and ask questions. Mathematics proceeds at an accelerated rate, highly incorporating applied problems and situations from day one. Social Studies stresses civic responsibility, diversity, cultural empathy, and reflection upon history from the first day of class until the last. Science establishes a deep curiosity about the natural world and phenomena, encouraging students to hypothesize about the questions that define our existence.
